When we moved to Magnolia, it was very important that I had enough land to start my new garden. The land originally was farm land (truck farming), so the soil, despite being clay heavy, was easy to work and could grow crops. The only negative was the abundance of “wire” grass or “Bermuda” grass, that grows above and below the ground and has nine lives.

I started my backyard garden in Mansfield in 1999, after moving there from Foxboro. The property was large enough so that I and my dad could both have areas to grow mainly tomatoes, peas and lettuce. I have learned a lot working in the backyard, but have always been a bit frustrated by the fact that the weeds always win.
